IAGSC Health Seminar
IAGSC has held a Health Camp for 4 years in a row in September. Somerset Medical Center nursing staff had come to perform Blood Pressure checks, with free sugar and Cholesterol testing. Dr.Nirala Trivedi, a dentist, had come to explain about Dental Care and held a Booth for education and questions. There were booths from Pharmacutical companies for information and hand outs.
There were two physician talks. The first one was by Dr. Chirag Shah about Caratact, glaucoma and Laser eye surgery. He spoke in detail about the various eye illnesses and the treatment choises. Dr. Shah practices in Princeton, NJ. Then our own Dr. Sharan Mahal spoke about “How to keep your Hearth Healthy”. He spoke about the role of regular check up, managment of diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol to prevent Heart Disease. Dr. Mahal is chief of Cardiology at Somerset Medical Senter, NJ. Both physicians answered many questions. At the end all the participants enjoyed light and healthy snacks and tea.
IAGSC Heritage Club
The India Heritage Club (IHC) for Senior’s is a Sub-group of the Indian Association of Somerset County which provides a forum for the senior members to participate in various activities that are of interest to them. Monthly functions are organized where the seniors get to enjoy activities such as songs, bhajans, informative seminars, birthday celebrations, table games, food, fun, and socializing. Bus trips are organized to places of interest in the tri-state area. Monthly functions are generally held at the Hillsborough Township Municipal Building Community Hall.

IAGSC Soup Kitchen
IAGSC continued its tradition of helping those who are less fortunate. IAGSC committee members, volunteers, and sponsors wet to serve lunch at the Plainfield Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. Over 100 individuals enjoyed the meal that included Soup, Salad, Vegetables, Pasta, and Fried Chicken.
Salvation Army Corps Officer, Major Verna LaSalle said, “Thank you all so very much for your gift of time and food for those who come to seek aid from our soup kitchen. We are deeply grateful to Indian Association for their commitment to community and others. It was my great pleasure to meet those who came and to see the wonderful meal you brought to share with others in our soup kitchen. What a blessing to those who need the soup kitchen to see volunteers there and know that they are not ‘forgotten’. It certainly does bring ‘hope’ to them in a tangible way
IAGSC Bhajan Program
IAGSC continued its tradition to support cultural activity like devotional songs (Bhajan) program was celebrated at Hillsborough public library community hall with our heritage club members. Anjali Shah coordinated the program and Kiran Kothari led the program with the following artists:

Deepika Desai, praghana Purohit, Bhavana Parikh, Umaben Trivedi
Over eighty heritage club members attended the program and enjoyed the evening with light dinner. Tushar Amin played excellent tabla and all singers selected variety of Bhajans and converted community hall into a temple like atmosphere. Special thanks to Ashok Purohit to provide sound system and Hillsborough Township to provide the community hall.
